So I have a shoot coming up. Like a real shoot; with a person who’s agreed to let me have her picture taken beforehand and everything. I’ve been scouring flickr and watching every creativeLive class for the past couple of weeks, to refresh old concepts and pretty much see what not to do. So far the difficulties have been the usual ones:
The crew: It’s kinda hard finding people who share your vision, when you’re not 100% clear what it is.
There’s also the fact that even the most mediocre of stylists/assistants wants paying, even if their portfolio is entirely composed of tungsten-y coolpix photographs. What ever happened to building portfolios together and what not?
Maybe I’m looking in the wrong places?
The subject: The person I’m photographing is a euro-styled dance musician, which in my head dictates a different style of photography than what I had in mind. When I think dance, I think flash, contrast, hard lines, purple, etc. I’m much more of a warmed up, available light kind of guy.
But whatever, I might actually rent out a speedlite and give it a go. I might even like it.
